Kangaroo is yummy!

...just don't tell Lauren! :) Last night we went to Kate's house (the Halbert's youngest daughter) and had kangaroo. It was really good! It was like a really lean steak. We had a really nice visit with Kate and her husband Todd. Todd played basketball at Oregon Tech and for several Australian national teams.

The project is going really well so far. I have all the systems imaged and I am not working on setting them up for each user. The electricians are working hard on the wiring so I think we will be ready to move everything starting Friday afternoon!

Tonight Neil (HKA's accountant) invited me to his house for a barbecue. They invited me to his house last trip and we had a great time so I am sure we will have fun tonight too.

I haven't had much time to take pictures yet...but I will post what I have so far on Flickr today.

Hello from Adelaide!

I made it to Adelaide around 3 pm yesterday afternoon. It was a long trip, but my ipod and Mac helped the time pass fairly quickly. I also sat by a nice couple on the flight from LA to Sydney which helped. The United plane we were on was crummy. On all the other international flights I have been on each seat had a TV so you could choose from several movies and TV shows. You could also watch all the details for the flight like where you were and how long you had to go. The food wasn't bad though and I was able to sleep for a couple of hours.

Chris was nice enough to pack some beef jerky for me to snack on the flight over...unfortunately I forgot about it being in my bag and was almost fined $220 AU!! Fortunately the lady in customs was nice and let me off! The next bit of excitement happened on the flight from Sydney to Adelaide. The plane looked ancient when it pulled up to the gate...the paint was chipped and faded and the seats were a bit thread bare. When we took off I thought it seemed really loud on the plane and bumpier than normal. The two ladies beside me almost panicked and I had to talk them out of jumping out of the window. After 30 minutes the pilot told us that there was a problem with the seals on one of the doors and we would be going back to Sydney. The landing was interesting...but safe! They kept us on the plane for 30 minutes or so while they tried to fix it. The person beside me was stinking up the plane and finally begged to use the bathroom so they let us all get off the plane. They ended up canceling a flight to Brisbane and letting us use the plane scheduled for it. I felt bad as the people on that flight shuffled away to another gate! The plane they put us on was brand new with satellite TV for each seat which they let us use for free because of the delay.

I stopped by work briefly last night just to check all the equipment and meet with the electricians. I am a bit worried because they haven't finished the network wiring yet, but I think they will make it by Friday. Hopefully I will be able to setup the server and image a system today and take care of the rest of the computers tomorrow as they have quite a list of other things they need to have fixed.

Thanks for all your prayers and all the calls and text messages...they helped me get through the long flights! I will put some pictures up on flickr as I take them

Here's The Weather for Ya

A winter storm system is blasting thru the Midwest this weekend making travel treacherous. Look for snow accumulations from 6-8" with the northern counties receiving up to 12" in some locations. There is a chance for sleet and freezing rain mixed in as well. In addition to the heavy snow winds will also be very strong and make travel and road clean up diffucult. Winds Saturday night into Sunday will gust to 35-40 MPH. With cold temperatures reaching only the mid 20's Sunday wind chills will be reaching into the low teens and even some single digits. If you have to be outside, dress accordingly. This can be a dangerous situation. Skies will clear Monday and into the first half of the coming workweek. Temperatures will also warm close to 40°.

I'M SURE THE FRIENDLY SKIES WILL BE SAFE!

On our way home!

Our project finished up last night and we left everything in really good shape! We have a couple loose ends and i am sure a few more will develop in the next few weeks, but I think we left them with the best overall setup of any of our 3 subsidiaries. We ended up working just under 160 hours the past 2 weeks.

It was a good trip, but we are both anxious to be home (assuming the snow doesn't keep us from making it!). It seems like forever since we have been home. At the same time it has gone fairly fast when you look back at everything that has been accomplished. It is also pretty funny to think about how much more comfortable we are here after 3 weeks of finding our way in England. It doesn't seem strange to look the wrong way for cars when crossing the street, seeing double decker busses and ancient buildings everywhere, and riding the train everywhere we go.

We are going to head to a huge toy store and Piccadilly Circle in London. I would also like to see inside either St. Paul's or Westminster Abbey, but we might just not have time.

I hope you are all careful this weekend with the snow coming!! I can't wait to see you all!!

What a weekend!

Sorry I haven't been posting much or responding to emails either. This weekend was crazy. We ended up getting them switched over to the new systems before the start of work today, but it was a struggle. We worked 90 hours between the 2 of us Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The project is in good shape now though with just the detail work to do to finish things off.

Thanks for all the emails the past few days...it is great to know what you are all up to at home!
